Frequently Asked Questions

Please take the time to read through some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the work we do:

  • In essence the scope of the work required and complexity of materials requested determines the full cost to yourselves, meaning giving an average may set unfair expectations.

As a very simple example: If existing posts or walls are strong and suitable for installation, the cost will be lower than if new structures need to be built.

We promise to be forthcoming with costs and to give you the best we can with no hidden fees. All works done will be communicated as clear as is possible and discussed with you beforehand, with any unforeseen changes relayed the moment we know.

Our standard call out fee for problems is £65, we’ll come round and diagnose for, on average, an hour or so, and let you know what works need doing from there and how much it would cost.

  • New products sourced and installed by us will come with a no fuss fix for the first year free of charge to give you peace of mind when ordering.

Following the first year, part supplier warranties vary from part to part. Most items, especially larger ones such as the motors used, typically come with three years warranty from the manufacturer, meaning we would only charge for labour costs after this time.

  • Security Level: Starts by determining the primary purpose of the gate, whether it's for enhanced privacy, deterring unauthorized entry, or simply the convenience and elegance of entry.

Space and Layout: Assessing the width of your entrance, the clearance available on either side, and the slope of your driveway can help decide between sliding or swinging gates. Sliding gates are ideal for limited space, while swing gates require more clearance but are simpler to install and maintain.

Aesthetic Preferences: We can help you choose a design and material that complements your property's architecture and desired style, considering options like steel, wood, or wrought iron.

Frequency of Use: Consider how often the gate will be used, as this can influence the durability and power of the motor required. Almost all entry systems have a limit to how many times they can be opened back to back before needing to cool down, usually starting about 10-15 times.

  • We sincerely advise at least yearly servicing for gates used on low to medium traffic properties. While we only use suppliers we trust, being exposed to the elements to some degree is unavoidable. Getting a check up ensures peace of mind, longevity, and continued performance.

  • We will need access to a standard electrical plug socket, to be permanently used to power any automated systems. Typically these are located outside, however if there’s a connecting wall with a plug on the inside the cable needed can be run through the wall itself.

It’s necessary for the plug itself to be located within 150ft (45M) that the total wire run would lay along. Please note that cable typically is attached to run along walls for aesthetics and safety, and so this wouldn’t necessarily be in a straight line. If the total length from plug to gate exceeds that distance then we would require this arranging before starting works. We would be happy to arrange for an electrician to do so as part of our quote.

  • All automated gates have to conform to relevant UK safety regulations directives. Any gate we install will have these measures in place at a minimum.

Photocells or light curtains detect obstructions in the gate's path and automatically stop or reverse it during closing, preventing accidents mechanically. Placed both sides of entry if possible, as close as the opening of said gate allows.

Gates must be designed to limit the force exerted, with specific requirements for force limits and reversal times if an obstruction is detected. Typically this is adjusted to where it will stop/reverse it’s sequence if an able adult were to lean into the closing or opening. Further safety systems such as safety edges can also be installed.

Installation must be carried out by competent professionals, and regular maintenance, including force testing, is crucial to ensure ongoing safety.

All automatic gates must be equipped with an emergency release system that allows someone to manually operate the gate in case of entrapment or power failure
